I prefer no monthly fees, not to save money, but because I'm a casual gamer and it really is weird getting a credit card bill 2 months in a row when I hardly played the game.
Then I'd start thinking "should I quit the subscription?"
In Everquest 2 and Wow I quit 3 times. I also paid many months wondering why I was doing it, when in total I was only playing 1-4 times a month.
Then when I wanted to play again I had to resubscribe, played a couple of times, had my fill and started thinking about quitting the subscription again.
It's was aggravating.

Actually a much better game would be throw the graphics of GW into Daggerfall and make that a MMO. That would be perfection.

Two WoWish things I want in GW:

1. Auction House (not gonna happen but it's a man's right to dream right?)
2. No freaking loot scaling.

Agree, and also despite what everyone seem to be saying this is NOT how GW2 will be.

It's not much but I personally and I know others who feel the same.. paying a monthly fee gives a psychological feeling that you "need" to play the game in order to get your monies worth if you get my drift.

I personally hate subscription fees on games.. I've had GW for 2 years and played it on and off.. it's nice being able to play a game at your leisure without feeling the need to play.

Your damn right, I just spent a month away from evE and knowing it was paid for my first three months was like a drug... I'd get up in the morning, tun on 'puter, go make a coffee, come back, load up eve and check skills, log out and get on with my day...

But yeh many of the aspects of WoW are being implemented into GW2 so just be patient and you will get what you ask for...

And just a hint there are other games out there than WoW and GW even within the MMORPG genre that you may find if you look, have everything that you ask for

You know, on the issue of "pay to play" concerning those casual gamers who are essentially overpaying for a service that they only use a few times a month...the solution kind of seems too obvious to have not been suggested before.

Just like a cellphone - instead of a monthly plan that's basically overpaying, you can just pay-as-you-go with phone cards. Why shouldn't that work here? A pay by the hour, or pay by the megabyte system seems kind of obvious. You might have a few subtleties to work out, like a lower rate at a higher bracket of hours played and possibly a minimum/maximum monthly bill, but for those who aren't playing 18 hours a day (minus bathroom breaks....I hope) it's a fair middle of the road.

A "Pay to Play" approach would simply discourage me from playing at all. I don't like pay to view movies either.

Thought i would write a big post here. Just read the last line at the bottom if you hate big posts.

I played wow since release until a few months ago and was hooked ive been in a top pve guild, spending over 8 hours each day playing but i never want to see any parts of that game in gw2 or other newer mmorpgs.
WoW's pvp is totally brainless and zergy. Its possible to kill another player or win without any tactics due to how much damage someone can deal and how much utility some of the classes have, mage for example has insane burst damage and can shutdown a healer for 10 sec instantly while hes nuking people for over half their health every 2.5 sec.

Its completely based on luck (wether you crit/hit/resist) and gear(the more damage you do/more chance of crit/hit less chance of resist)

I ran premades with my pve guild all the time. Right before the expansion came out it got ridiculus as mages/locks were more than capable of killing other players in 1 hit, any good pve guild could just dominate a bg game and gy camp normal players.

Saying that wow's gear is much more diverse is totally wrong as well imo. You get less choice than in gw even. You wear your classes set and maybe 1 or 2 random items that drop of other bosses/trash. Theres no dyeing or customization(they added jewels now in the expansion i know after so long) Everyone in a pve guild of the same class is just a clone of each other just a few items are different cos they didnt drop yet.
and the whole raiding side sucks also pressing your 1 heal button or your 1 fireball button non stop for 10 minutes to kill a boss. It wasnt much fun at all most people raid just for the gear and not cos they like it. Combine this with a good guild requiring you to lose most if not all evenings of your week to keep up on dkp to win items. I really dont understand its popularity.

The only online game that left a big impression on me is dark age of camelot. I played this for many years. Its an old game but very complex with alot of discussion on class spec(kinda like builds) and templates(a hell of alot of gear to choose from and the perfect combo is required). The rvr pvp is something thats still the best pvp ive been part of although a few newer games have tryed to imitate it but nothing i played has been close.

Player housing is awesome as well i prefer this to wow's auction house system, and a newer game with this could do it better than daoc's older system.

I learnt tactics such as peeling and what an assist train was from DAOC then i went to WoW and nothnig like this is used, you just run in and press a few buttons. GW pvp has alot of the basic pvp tactics in it just different wording,

I hope they make gw2 similar to what gw1 is, maybe making it 16 skill choices with an even bigger amount of skills and more customization available. Not just turn it into a whoever plays the most has the best gear and wins game like wow ><

I wouldn't mind if Anet starts charging from GW2 if it's justified. Huge content updates and with these I mean new dungeons & areas to explore, 24/7 gamemasters that help if you get scammed/hacked/restore your character if you deleted it etc. & overal just more polished game. This is something that I can always dream of ...
GW2 is to be a combination of what's best in online gaming...

There's a lot that could be done with an effective online store with available optional enhancements into the game. That would still allow players to play the game without a monthly fee and having a choice to get those enhancements or not.

On the other hand I don't know what will happen between ArenaNet and its boss, NCSoft, if Guild Wars 2 gets to be a huge success. I say: good riddance NCSoft, taken into consideration the costumer-penalizing decisions that they've been making regarding restrictions in payment and online store structure...

WoW is full of thoroughly obnoxious little kids and it has a monthly fee.. Guild Wars on the other hand has a more mature community from my experience.

Conclusion: Monthly fees don't put off stupid kids.

I just hope Guild wars 2 has the same kind of skill system of guildwars 1. I just hate spamming many of my 100 different skills. Who knew I could make such a great build with 8 skills (7 if you exclude res).

Warcraft is pretty fun...flying around and travelling by train..(then you fall off...crap) I feel like a little kid. What I find funny is people get real money off of WoW gold...I think they make a living out of it >.>.

Well just give me my mesmer in gw2(one of the most unique classes in online games i've ever seen) and i'l buy it :P!

Funny, because I've had the exact opposite experience. In WoW, from what I've experienced, there's little spam in the General channel, even in major cities, but in GW, there's nothing but spam.

Also, for every successful instance run I've had in WoW, I've had 5 failed PuGs in GW. In GW, the contrast is between good builds and bad builds, while in WoW, the contrast is between competant and imcompetant players. There are more people who want to do their own thing, which can cause a player to be useless in a GW PuG, whereas in WoW, the only useless person is one who is completely disruptive. (and can be replaced)

If Only They Would Merge GW and WoW...

If Only They Would Abolish Borders and Flags....LOL

The OP is dreaming (its nice to dream) but according to my knowledge, Strain + O'Brien + Wyatt left Blizzard to create ArenaNet

In RL like in VL you have to make choices.....so keep on dreaming and in the meantime split your gaming time 50/50......In french we say: you cannot get the butter, the money from the butter & the dairywoman

Me, too. The people are a lot more helpful and once you get into the higher levels it's hard to find someone who's an ass to you.

GW has a horrible community, because of its lack of subscription fees.

Also, whoever said Warcraft didn't have much lore...they have a few books out and there's four games to build on it.
